Legal Services Authorites for providing free and competent legal services to weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice is not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities and to organize Lok Adalat to ensure that the operation of the legal system promots justice on a basis of equal opportunity.

In the year 1987, Legal Aid Cell was established in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Silchar. Legal Aid Cell was a branch of that office, which was supervised by an Executive Magistrate.

In the year 2002, the said branch was transferred from the Deputy Commissioners establishment and absorved under the control of District & Sessions Judge’s establishment. And the said Legal Aid Cell is now recognised as District Legal Services Authority, Cachar, Silchar.
"Access to Justice" for all is the motto of the Legal Services Authorities.
